As the UAE moves toward mandatory e-invoicing from 2027, many businesses are holding on to common misconceptions. Let’s bust the top 4 myths that could cost you dearly.
1. “I’m not VAT registered, so it doesn’t apply to me.”
MYTH
FACT: E-invoicing applies to all businesses transacting in the UAE, whether or not they are VAT registered.
2. “Emailing a PDF invoice is enough.”
MYTH
FACT: E-invoices must be sent in a structured digital format through an Accredited Service Provider (ASP). Sending PDFs via email does not meet compliance requirements.
3. “My software provider will handle everything.”
MYTH
FACT: The ASP only sends your data. Wrong TRNs, incorrect business details, or incomplete information remain your responsibility — and can result in fines.
4. “The deadline will be extended again.”
MYTH
FACT: The deadline was extended once to 30 October 2026 for businesses with revenue of AED 50 million and above. The go-live date of 1 January 2027 remains unchanged. Plan as if it’s final.
Don’t Get Caught Off Guard
E-invoicing compliance is no longer optional. Businesses that fail to prepare risk penalties starting from AED 5,000 per month.
